For 11 Moroccan video game studios, Gamescom is a chance to show their work to the world. The studios are taking part in the event in Cologne, Germany, for the first official Moroccan participation in the world’s largest video game trade fair. They are based in a 102-square-metre Moroccan pavilion, where they are presenting their games and meeting international publishers and investors. The delegation includes eight studios from the Video Game Incubator programme. The Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication runs the programme with the French Embassy in Morocco.
Three other studios were selected after being recognised in the Game Preview Announcement category at the Morocco Gaming Expo 2026.
Nissrine Souissi, director of gaming industry development at the ministry, said the participation is meant to help Moroccan studios reach international markets and join global video game value chains.
The participation was announced during the third Morocco Gaming Expo in Rabat. The event, held from 20 to 24 May 2026, attracted more than 80,000 visitors.
The expo brought together representatives from 24 countries, 100 Moroccan exhibitors and 48 international investors.
The Gamescom appearance is part of a national strategy launched in 2021 to build the video game industry. The government wants to make the country an African gaming hub by 2032.
Gamescom runs from 26 to 30 August in Cologne. More than 1,600 exhibitors are taking part this year, with more than 800 games expected to be shown.
