Africa Morocco Link is expanding its fleet ahead of the summer season, preparing for the annual surge in travelers brought by the Marhaba Operation. To meet the high demand from Moroccan expatriates heading home for the holidays, the company has added a new ferry, the AF Claudia, to its roster. Starting Thursday, June 26, the vessel will begin operating regular crossings between Algeciras in Spain and the Moroccan port of Tanger Med.

Currently docked in the Andalusian port, the AF Claudia is set to make its maiden voyage on the route in the coming days. Though new to AML’s operations, the ship itself has a long history. Built in 2001, it sails under the Italian flag and is owned by Adria Ferries SpA. Over the years, it has served under different names, including California Star and Stena Forwarder.

With a length of 186 meters and a beam of 25 meters, the ferry has a gross tonnage of 25,000. It can accommodate up to 1,000 passengers and is equipped with a vehicle deck that spans 2,100 linear meters—enough to carry heavy transport trucks as well as a designated area for 75 passenger cars.

Powered by two MAN engines generating a combined 18,900 kW, the vessel is capable of cruising at speeds of up to 22 knots. The AF Claudia will run throughout the summer season, with continuous round trips scheduled until the conclusion of Operation Marhaba on September 15. During this period, thousands of Moroccan nationals living across Europe return home, making this maritime link a vital connection for families and travelers alike.
