Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football, said on Friday that the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be held in Morocco as planned.

He rejected reports that the country might step down as host.

Speaking at a news conference in Dar es Salaam, Motsepe said the tournament will run from 17 March to 3 April. He said CAF is fully committed to Morocco.

“The next Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is going ahead, and there is strong competition and clear enthusiasm among countries interested in hosting,” Motsepe said. “Morocco has been a major supporter. Several countries submitted hosting requests, but time constraints limited our options. As of now, the commitment with Morocco remains fully in place.”

He said some countries suggested holding the tournament at a different time. But he added that changing the dates was not possible because the event is linked to qualification for the Women’s World Cup.

“The AFCON will be held on its scheduled dates, and we are confident it will be a successful edition that strengthens the position of women’s football across the continent,” he said.
