Casablanca’s city council convened Tuesday for its regular October session, during which it approved the development of a major new urban project in the Ben M’Sick district. The future development, named “African Unity,” will serve as a new urban hub, with its official planning framework now greenlit. The meeting was held under the leadership of council president Nabila Rmili and the Secretary General of the Casablanca-Settat region.

Out of 58 agenda items, 51 received approval during this first session. Among the more significant decisions was the ratification of an agreement outlining the transfer of responsibilities related to rehousing, compensation for rightful beneficiaries, and the demolition of homes located along Avenue Royale. This agreement complements another document formalizing the transfer of real estate assets tied to the project.

The council also endorsed a multi-party partnership that brings together the city, the Casablanca prefectural council, the Casablanca-Anfa prefecture, the Ibn Rochd University Hospital, and the Casablanca Iskane and Equipment company. This coalition will be responsible for building and equipping a new reception center within the oncology department, specifically in Pavilion 40 of the hospital.

Another agreement received approval for a road infrastructure upgrade in the Sidi Bernoussi industrial zone. This initiative involves the Sidi Bernoussi prefecture, the Casablanca-Settat regional council, the Casablanca municipality, the Sidi Bernoussi district, the national railway operator ONCF, and the urban planning agency Casa Aménagement.

Additionally, the council gave the go-ahead for the construction of Route AC119. This project is backed by several regional institutions, including the Wilaya, the Aïn Chock district prefecture, the prefectural council, ONCF, and Casa Aménagement. In a separate but equally important move, the council signed an agreement with the Pasteur Institute to step up the region’s anti-rabies vaccination campaign.

During the session, Council President Nabila Rmili praised the dedication and coordination of the various committees involved. She emphasized that these projects will have a tangible impact on residents’ quality of life and are crucial to addressing the community’s growing needs.
