Accepting electronic payments in Morocco just got a whole lot simpler—no bulky payment terminal required. Al Barid Bank and Barid Cash have introduced a mobile payment solution designed specifically for small businesses, independent workers, and artisans. All they need is a smartphone with NFC capability.

This new service, called Barid Payment Mobile, aims to make contactless payments a reality for even the smallest vendors, including those in remote areas. The system runs entirely through a mobile app, eliminating the need for any additional hardware. It’s easy to set up and meets international security standards, allowing users to start accepting payments quickly and securely.

By focusing on small, often underserved businesses—including those operating in rural areas—Al Barid Bank is aligning this move with Morocco’s broader push for financial inclusion and digital transformation. The bank’s chairman, Al Amine Nejjar, says the goal is to remove both financial and technical barriers that have historically kept many people out of the digital economy. For him, it’s not just about modernizing commerce, but also about closing the digital divide and giving a boost to local entrepreneurship.

With this first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the group hopes to drive widespread adoption of digital payments across Morocco. It’s part of a larger effort to modernize financial practices, simplify everyday transactions, and build a more connected, accessible economy.
