Tunisian conductor and violinist Amal Guermazi will lead the Paris-based Mazzika Orchestra in two concerts in Morocco on 22 and 23 October, featuring orchestral versions of classic Arabic songs. The first performance will take place at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat on Thursday, 22 October, with doors opening at 19:30 and the concert starting at 20:00. A second show is scheduled for Friday, 23 October, at Studio des Arts Vivants in Casablanca, where doors open at 20:00 and the performance begins at 20:30.
Organised by Top Event Production, the concerts will feature music made famous by Arab singers including Oum Kalthoum, Fairouz, Warda Al-Jazairia and Abdel Halim Hafez.
The programme includes Enta Omri, Alf Leila w Leila, Fakkarouni, Batwaness Bik and Kalimat. The arrangements aim to preserve the original melodies while adapting them for a larger orchestral setting.
Guermazi, who holds a doctorate in musicology from Sorbonne University in Paris, specialises in the preservation and transcription of Arab musical heritage. During the performances, she will alternate between conducting the orchestra and playing solo violin passages.
The Moroccan dates form part of Mazzika’s 2026 international tour, which has included London, Boston, Los Angeles and New York. The tour will continue in Europe, with planned stops in Brussels, Lille, Nice, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf and Paris.
“The two Moroccan dates form part of an international tour that has taken Mazzika in 2026 to London, Boston, Los Angeles, and New York, prior to Rabat and Casablanca,” Top Event Production said.
Founded in Paris in 2017 by Lebanese producer and musician Dr Chadi Hakme, Mazzika Orchestra focuses on rearranging and performing music from the Arab world’s musical heritage. It has collaborated with more than 25 North African and Middle Eastern artists, including Ramy Ayach, Sofia Sadek and Hamidou, and has staged tributes to the golden age of Arabic music.
The orchestra’s arrangements bring traditional Arabic compositions into a symphonic setting, combining their characteristic melodies and modal structures with larger-scale orchestration.
Tickets are available through Ticket.ma and iTicket.ma. Prices range from 200 Moroccan dirhams to 500 dirhams for VIP seats at the Rabat concert.
