Attijariwafa and BCP among world’s top companies in 2025

For another year, Morocco’s Attijariwafa Bank and Banque Centrale Populaire have earned spots on Forbes’ prestigious Global 2000 list, which ranks the world’s largest publicly traded companies based on sales, profits, assets, and market value.

In the 2025 edition, Attijariwafa Bank landed at number 979. Backed by revenues of $4.84 billion and a net profit of $956 million, the Casablanca-based lender has assets totaling $71.7 billion and a market capitalization of $14.44 billion. Founded in 1911, the bank employs more than 20,000 people and operates across a broad spectrum of financial services—from retail and international banking to insurance, real estate, and specialized finance.

Further down the list, Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP) claimed the 1,812th spot. The bank reported $3.3 billion in revenue and $416 million in net income, with total assets valued at $53.5 billion and a market cap close to $6 billion. Originally established in 1926 and restructured under its current format in 1961, BCP today has a workforce of about 2,700 employees and is led by CEO Naziha Belkeziz.

These two banks remain Morocco’s only representatives on the Global 2000, a list still overwhelmingly dominated by American corporations. The United States alone accounts for 612 companies this year. Africa, by contrast, is represented by just 17 firms—14 from South Africa, one from Egypt, and the two Moroccan banks. Among these African entries, Attijariwafa Bank ranks sixth and BCP holds the 16th position.

At the very top of the list, JPMorgan Chase maintains its leading position for the third year running, ahead of Berkshire Hathaway and China’s ICBC. The top tier also includes Saudi Aramco, Amazon, Bank of America, along with several major Chinese financial institutions. Alphabet and Microsoft round out the top ten.

Altogether, the companies on this year’s Global 2000 generated nearly $53 trillion in total revenue and $4.9 trillion in combined profits. Their collective assets amount to $242.2 trillion, with a total market value of $91.3 trillion.
