Attijariwafa bank appoints new executives following leadership shift

Attijariwafa Bank has reshaped its leadership team following the retirement of Hassan Bertal, a key figure within the institution who held the role of Deputy CEO. For years, he led the crucial Morocco and Europe Retail Banking Division, playing a central role in the group’s regional strategy. Stepping into his place is Rachid Kettani, formerly the Group Chief Financial Officer, who now takes over the reins of this strategic business unit.

This leadership transition has triggered a broader internal reorganization. Mohammed Hamlili, who has been promoted to Deputy General Manager, will now serve as Group CFO. He also joins the Executive Committee, marking his entry into the bank’s core decision-making circle. Another major appointment is that of Mahmoud Rédouane El Alj, who becomes Deputy General Manager and a member of the Coordination and Synergies Committee. He’ll oversee the bank’s nationwide network, a key operational area.

Through this refreshed leadership structure, Attijariwafa Bank is signaling a clear intent: maintain continuity while evolving to meet the changing dynamics of the financial sector. By elevating internal talent with deep institutional knowledge, the bank underscores its commitment to leveraging experience over external recruitment. Rachid Kettani, in particular, has played a pivotal role in shaping the group’s financial strategy in recent years. The promotions of both Hamlili and El Alj reflect a deliberate shift toward expanding the pool of operational leaders involved in strategic governance.

By renewing its executive team with homegrown talent, Morocco’s leading bank is positioning itself to both strengthen its foothold in the domestic market and accelerate its international expansion efforts.
