Banque Populaire has launched a bank card that does not show a card number or CVV code. The new card, called “LA POPULAIRE NUMBERLESS”, is the first numberless physical payment card launched by a bank in Morocco, according to Groupe BCP. The card keeps sensitive payment details inside the Pocket Bank mobile app instead of printing them on the card. This means someone who finds or steals the card cannot simply copy its 16-digit number or CVV code from the card itself.
Idriss Bensmail, General Manager of BCP in charge of Retail Banking, said: “With LA POPULAIRE NUMBERLESS, we are fulfilling our commitment to offer our clients payment methods that are increasingly secure and adapted to their daily uses. This third pioneering innovation in 2026 illustrates our ability to anticipate technological shifts in the electronic payments sector and apply them directly to customer security.”
The new card is the third electronic payment product launched by Groupe BCP in 2026.
The group previously introduced “LA VIRTUELLE”, a digital card that can be used for online purchases and contactless payments in shops through Apple Pay and Google Pay.
It also launched “L’INSTANT”, a temporary virtual card for one-off online purchases. The card expires after one transaction or after a short period.
All three products are managed through the Pocket Bank app.
The new card is part of a wider move by banks to make everyday payments more secure through mobile technology. Removing card details from the physical card can also reduce the risk of someone copying them after a card is lost, stolen or photographed. It does not protect against every type of card fraud.
