BYD helps Auto Nejma post strong sales growth in early 2026

More Moroccans are buying electric and hybrid cars, and Auto Nejma is seeing the benefits. The company sold 1,627 vehicles in the first three months of 2026, up from 1,347 during the same period last year. That is an increase of nearly 21%, or 280 additional vehicles.

The strong performance comes as Morocco’s car market continues to grow. Auto Nejma said national vehicle sales rose by more than 22% in the first quarter compared with a year earlier, driven by growing interest in electric vehicles and the arrival of new brands.

Auto Nejma’s revenue reached 815 million dirhams by the end of March, up 3% from 792 million dirhams a year earlier.

The company said the results were helped by strong demand for BYD vehicles and steady sales of Mercedes-Benz models.

Auto Nejma is also spending heavily to expand its business. Investment spending jumped to 39.4 million dirhams in the first quarter, compared with just 3.8 million dirhams a year earlier.

The money is being used to reopen the company’s historic Boulevard Bahmad site and continue work on its new facility in Bouskoura.

The company’s financial position also improved sharply. Its net cash position stood at 68 million dirhams at the end of March, compared with a deficit of 300.9 million dirhams a year earlier.

Auto Nejma said the improvement followed a bond issue completed in 2025 that strengthened its balance sheet.

Looking ahead, the company plans to keep expanding its network across Morocco. Several new branches are expected to open during 2026, along with three additional locations to meet growing demand.

BYD has become a major part of Auto Nejma’s growth story. The Chinese manufacturer now offers a wide range of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in Morocco, from the entry-level Seagull starting at 199,900 dirhams to the premium Tang seven-seat SUV priced from 709,000 dirhams.

Government incentives, including tax breaks for electric and hybrid vehicles, are helping more drivers make the switch away from traditional petrol and diesel cars.
