CEN-SAD Welcomes Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Launch Project

The Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) welcomed the statement of the Chief Operating Officer of the gas and power of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Yusuf Usman, announcing the launch of the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project.

This large-scale project, undertaken by two active member countries of the CEN-SAD and which will undoubtedly benefit several other countries in the sub-region, is in line with the 2063 Agenda’s vision of the African Union and will contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to increase the supply of gas and electricity in Africa, the CEN-SAD said in a statement issued Wednesday.

CEN-SAD commended this great inclusive and innovative project that will link the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts and symbolizes the foresight and good governance of two African countries, drivers of South-South cooperation, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, and  President Muhammadu Buhari.

In this regard, the CEN-SAD is calling on the Member States involved and all partners on the African continent to vigorously support this project, which offers multiple economic, political and social benefits.

The CEN-SAD also expressed its support to the Kingdom of Morocco and the Federal Republic of Nigeria for their vision in promoting African integration and the well-being of the populations of their respective countries and, consequently, to all the peoples of the Sahel-Saharan region.

On Wednesday, the Chief Operating Officer of the gas and power of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) announced that the Nigerian federal government is preparing to build the gas pipeline linking Nigeria and Morocco.

The Nigerian Executive has finalized plans for the achievement of this major project, he said in an interview with the daily “Nigerian News Direct”.
