Japan’s leading payment brand JCB is expanding its reach in Morocco, as the country’s Interbank Electronic Banking Center (CMI) now allows a wider acceptance of its cards across the national payment ecosystem. Known for its global footprint that spans more than 160 countries and 169 million cardholders, JCB had already been accepted by merchants connected to the CMI since 2023. Now, its services are available through a broader network that includes payment institutions linked to Morocco’s national payment platform.

This strategic expansion reinforces CMI’s central role in Morocco’s digital payments landscape. The organization has positioned itself as a key hub capable of integrating a diverse range of payment solutions while ensuring security, interoperability, and international connectivity. The move is part of CMI’s broader mission to promote the development of a dynamic, open, and competitive payments ecosystem. In fact, several domestic operators—such as Al Filahi Cash, Attijari Payment, CDM Pay, DamaneCash, Lana Cash, M2T, and Saham Paiements—launched in May 2025 with CMI’s support.

The enhanced partnership with JCB is designed to make payments easier for Japanese cardholders visiting Morocco, whether they’re shopping in physical stores or making purchases online. It also reflects forward-looking planning, anticipating the surge in international visitors expected for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco is co-hosting. “Morocco is becoming an essential destination for our clients. This broader card acceptance ensures a seamless, modern payment experience,” said Obaid Bawany, Managing Director of JCB International Dubai.

For Rachid Saihi, the CEO of CMI, this development marks a critical milestone. He sees it as a meaningful step toward gradually opening Morocco’s payment market while aligning with global trends. The initiative also aligns with CMI’s commitment to integrating all forms of payment, underpinned by a next-generation technological infrastructure aimed at fostering an inclusive, sustainable, and interconnected financial environment.

This deeper collaboration with JCB further cements Morocco’s reputation as a rising hub for finance and technology in the region. It also fits into the broader vision of Digital Morocco 2030, a national agenda that places digital innovation at the heart of the country’s economic transformation.
