Travelling between Strasbourg and Marrakech has just become much easier. A new direct route now connects the two cities, cutting out the need for stopovers and long travel days. Low-cost airline EasyJet runs the flights twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, between Strasbourg-Entzheim Airport and Marrakech-Menara Airport.

Until now, most travellers had to fly through Paris or Casablanca.

The new route responds to growing demand for tourism, business and family visits. The Consul General of Morocco in Strasbourg said: “This initiative opens new horizons for cooperation and strengthens human and cultural ties.” The President of Strasbourg Airport welcomed the first flight and pointed to strong demand in both directions as part of the airport’s plan to add more destinations.

The schedule is designed for short city breaks. People in eastern France can now reach Marrakech in just a few hours. Moroccan travellers gain easier access to Strasbourg and the European Parliament for work or leisure.

The route also reflects Marrakech’s strong appeal as an international tourist destination. Strasbourg Airport sees the link as part of its wider plan to connect with popular Mediterranean cities.

The launch shows how low-cost airlines are using regional airports to expand international travel beyond major hubs. This makes Marrakech more accessible to students, families and independent travellers from eastern France and western Germany.

The route comes as Morocco pushes ahead with its Vision 2030 tourism plan. The Moroccan National Tourism Office is working with European airlines to increase flights to the country’s expanded airports. The growth in short-haul flights also raises questions about the environmental impact of rising air traffic.

The Moroccan Consulate’s involvement highlights the route’s social importance. The Grand Est region is home to a large Moroccan community. The flight allows more frequent family visits and supports cultural and business links.

Both regions expect economic benefits. Strasbourg Airport hopes for higher income from parking and shops. Marrakech and the Al Haouz region expect more business for riads and local artisans. Travel packages linking the two cities may follow as demand grows.
