easyJet Launches Agadir Flights as Volotea Delays Return

Travellers hoping to fly from Bordeaux to Agadir this autumn will have fewer options than expected. easyJet launched its new direct service on Sunday, 25 October, but Volotea has delayed the return of its flights until 19 December, leaving the British airline as the only operator on the route for almost eight weeks.

Volotea had planned to resume flights on 3 November. The new date is 46 days later, according to aviation news specialist AeroRoutes, which compared the airline’s original schedule with the timetable available on 18 October. Bordeaux Airport also lists 19 December as the new start date.

EasyJet operates two flights a week between Bordeaux and Agadir, on Wednesdays and Sundays. The journey takes about two hours and 50 minutes. When tickets went on sale in April, introductory one-way fares started at €50, excluding baggage fees.

Flight U2 1845 was scheduled to leave Bordeaux at 07:30 on 25 October. The service gives travellers in south-western France a direct link to the Moroccan coastal city without a stopover.

Volotea’s revised schedule affects several other routes between France and Morocco. Flights from Bordeaux to Marrakech, Lille to Agadir, Nantes to Agadir and Strasbourg to Marrakech have also been delayed until 19 December.

The airline has also cancelled its Strasbourg-Agadir route, less than a year after launching it. Volotea took over the service in late November 2025 after Ryanair withdrew from Strasbourg.

Flights between Bordeaux and Marrakech are now due to resume on 19 December. The service will then be cut from two flights a week to one from 7 January 2027.

The changes mean several routes originally expected to return in early November will not operate during much of the autumn. Volotea’s revised schedule shifts their return towards the Christmas holiday period.

EasyJet is moving ahead with its winter schedule from France. On 25 October, the airline also launched direct flights from Bordeaux to Malaga, operating on Mondays and Fridays, and to Gran Canaria, operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The airline is due to launch another route on Tuesday, 27 October, connecting Nantes with Essaouira. Flights will operate twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The expansion comes as airlines face higher taxes and operating costs in France. In March 2025, the French government increased the solidarity tax on airline tickets, known as the TSBA.

The increase prompted Ryanair to cut 13% of its French winter capacity, removing 750,000 seats and cancelling 25 routes. The airline also withdrew completely from Strasbourg.

The Union of French Airports has warned that further tax increases could lead to more route cancellations and weaken the competitiveness of regional airports.
