Falcon and Fluoralpha unite to build Morocco’s first CSPG pilot plant

Falcon Energy Materials is teaming up with Moroccan company Fluoralpha to launch a pilot plant for coated purified spherical graphite—better known as CSPG—in Jorf Lasfar. This high-performance material is a vital component in the anodes of lithium-ion batteries, and the pilot project marks a key step toward building a large-scale industrial facility.

By joining forces, Fluoralpha becomes the latest member of Falcon’s growing industrial consortium. A subsidiary of the InnovX group, Fluoralpha will play a pivotal role in the supply chain thanks to its upcoming production of anhydrous hydrofluoric acid, a critical ingredient in the graphite purification process. The deal also gives Falcon access to land in Jorf Lasfar’s industrial zone, where construction on the pilot plant is expected to begin in spring 2025. The facility is scheduled to be operational by the end of that year, with a daily production target of 100 kilograms of CSPG, primarily for customer qualification testing.

Once the pilot phase is complete, Falcon plans to scale up with a full-fledged industrial site nearby. The future plant will be located in Park X, an area tied to InnovX and adjacent to the Jorf Lasfar complex. Its proximity to Casablanca’s port and its position within a developed logistics zone make it a strategic springboard for exports.

Fluoralpha, on the verge of becoming Morocco’s first producer of hydrofluoric acid, is developing technology that repurposes byproducts from the phosphate fertilizer industry. The company transforms fluorosilicic acid into both AHF and synthetic fluorspar, two critical substances used across high-tech industrial sectors.

This partnership allows Falcon to secure a local, reliable source of a key raw material, while minimizing the logistical and safety challenges tied to transporting corrosive chemicals. CEO Matthieu Bos noted that all the ingredients for non-Chinese CSPG production are now in place in Morocco.

Falcon, a French-Canadian group, has built its business on a vertically integrated model—from graphite extraction in Guinea to industrial processing in Morocco. The company’s strategy is to offer Europe a fully traceable, self-contained supply chain, supporting industrial sovereignty. It also plans to invest in local talent to deepen its involvement in Morocco’s emerging tech ecosystem.
