Foreign Exchange Office : Trade Deficit Up 10.4% by End-May

The trade deficit stood at 80.95 billion dirhams at the end of May 2021, up 10.4% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to Morocco’s Foreign Exchange Office.

For the first five months of 2021, exports were set at 126.68 billion dirhams (+23.5%), while imports amounted to 207.64 billion dirhams (+18.1%), the Office said in its monthly foreign trade data for May 2021.

According to the same source, the increase in imported goods is explained by a rise in finished consumer products (+12.64 billion dirhams), semi-finished products (+6.83 billion dirhams), capital goods (+6.28 billion dirhams), and energy products (+2.79 billion dirhams).
