Maârif has opened the first gaming centre in Casablanca, in a move aimed at supporting young people and developing the local esports scene.
The centre was launched on Wednesday at the Centre culturel Zefzaf.
The project is the result of a partnership between the city, Casa Events and Animation and the Fédération royale marocaine des jeux électroniques. Officials say 16 similar centres will be set up across Casablanca’s districts.
The aim is not only to offer a place to play video games, but also to help train players, build professional gaming teams and launch a local competition league.
Abdessadeq Mourchid, who heads the Maârif district council, said the project responds to the fast growth of esports around the world. He said the sector has moved beyond simple entertainment and now creates real economic opportunities.
The centre will provide modern computers and gaming consoles for young people who may not have access to this equipment at home. It is also designed to offer a supervised space where players can practise and improve their skills.
City officials say the wider plan is part of efforts to give young people more activities and to support new talent in the digital sector.
