GigaLab Group has appointed Mohammed Aiouche as deputy general manager as the Moroccan medical diagnostics company looks to increase production and expand its business across Africa and other international markets. Aiouche has more than 30 years of experience in medical devices and diagnostic testing. He has held senior management positions focused on business growth and operations.

Founded in 2007 by Dr Karim Zaher and headquartered in Casablanca, GigaLab operates manufacturing facilities in Had Soualem and Bouskoura. Its business combines the production of medical diagnostic products with the distribution and servicing of laboratory equipment made by international companies.

The company manufactures rapid diagnostic tests for infectious diseases, heart conditions, cancer and women’s health. It also produces chromogenic culture media, which help laboratories identify bacteria, as well as laboratory consumables and optical instruments, including microscopes.

Its distribution business supplies automated analysers used for blood tests, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology and autoimmune disease testing. The company also provides installation, calibration, maintenance, reagent supplies and technical support to public hospitals, private laboratories and research institutions.

GigaLab was the first manufacturer of rapid antigen diagnostic tests in Africa. It has also developed GLD HIV-1+2, which it describes as the first rapid HIV test designed and manufactured entirely in Morocco to receive official regulatory approval.

The company has received the “Made in Morocco” label from the Moroccan Institute for Standardization (IMANOR). Its manufacturing and quality systems include ISO 13485:2016 certification issued by Bureau Veritas, ISO 9001 certification and European CE marking.

GigaLab has supplied millions of diagnostic tests to healthcare facilities in Morocco and export markets across West and Central Africa and the Middle East.

The company is investing in research and development to produce multiplex rapid tests, which can detect several pathogens from a single sample. It also plans to establish distribution hubs across Africa to supply medical centres in cities and clinics in rural areas.
