GITEX Africa 2025 : Marrakech takes the lead at Africa’s biggest tech show

Marrakech has once again cemented its reputation as Africa’s digital capital with the launch of GITEX Africa 2025, now in its third year. The tech expo, the largest of its kind on the continent, opened its doors this Monday, drawing an unprecedented 45,000 attendees and 1,400 exhibitors from 130 countries. Held under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, the event has grown into a landmark gathering for digital professionals across Africa and beyond.

The official opening ceremony welcomed Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch alongside leading global figures in the tech industry, setting the tone for a high-stakes week of innovation, networking, and strategic dialogue. This year’s edition is powered by the Ministry of Digital Transition and the Digital Development Agency, and places a spotlight on critical infrastructure—everything from cloud computing and 5G networks to connectivity and data centers.

One of the event’s key highlights is the “Africa Future Connectivity” summit, an initiative aimed at narrowing the digital divide in underserved regions while fostering deeper collaboration between governments and private sector players. The summit reflects a growing recognition that digital inclusion is no longer optional—it’s essential for the continent’s development.

Another fresh addition this year is the “Diaspora Studio,” a dedicated space designed to spotlight African tech talent living abroad. By encouraging knowledge exchange and investment flows, the initiative seeks to reconnect skilled professionals with their countries of origin and fuel innovation from within.

The 2025 edition also expands into new sectors with dedicated zones exploring the latest in educational technology, agricultural innovation, healthcare solutions, and the fast-growing sports tech space. Each of these areas reflects a broader vision for a digitally empowered Africa—one where technology isn’t just a tool but a transformative force across all walks of life.

Behind all the numbers and panels, the message is loud and clear: Africa’s digital transformation is gaining momentum, and Morocco is right at its center, driving the conversation and shaping the future.
