Five people died in the crash of the Ivorian army’s Mi-24 helicopter near Togolokaye (northern Côte d’Ivoire), said, on Friday, Lassina Doumbia, Chief of Armed Forces’ General Staff.
A statement from the army indicated that the Mi-24 helicopter had “lost contact with the control station at around 2 a.m. (GMT and local time)”, adding that the aircraft was on a reconnaissance mission in the northern borderline.
The statement stresses that “all five occupants perished in this accident,” without specifying any causes for which the helicopter crashed.
“An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of this tragedy,” said the statement.
The army is mobilized in northern Côte d’Ivoire, which has recently experienced several attacks, particularly on the border with Burkina Faso (northeast).
