Laâyoune welcomes its largest shopping center: inside Mazeej Mall

Laâyoune has just welcomed a major new commercial hub with the opening of Mazeej Mall on Avenue Mohammed VI. This next-generation retail park, the first of its kind in the southern provinces by Marjane Group, spans an impressive 60,000 square meters, with 30,000 square meters of covered space. Developed by Marjane Reim, the group’s real estate investment subsidiary, the project represents an investment of over 260 million dirhams and aims to boost the region’s economic and social vitality.

Mazeej Mall offers a diverse shopping experience tailored to various needs. It features an 11,000-square-meter hypermarket, a 5,400-square-meter home furnishings section, and 34 retail stores spread across 13,000 square meters. Designed with families in mind, the mall also includes a 700-square-meter indoor entertainment area and a 1,500-square-meter outdoor playground. For added convenience, visitors have access to a free parking lot with 555 spaces and a 1,300-square-meter service station.

The mall hosts a mix of national and international brands spanning multiple sectors, from fashion and electronics to home decor, cosmetics, and financial services. Among the local retailers are Electroplanet, Inwi, Attijariwafa Bank, Marwa, Yasmine Fun Park, and Wojooh. The presence of global brands like Celio, Yves Rocher, Alain Afflelou, and Lee Cooper further enhances its appeal, making it a key shopping destination in the region.

Beyond retail, Mazeej Mall is set to play a significant role in the local economy, creating around 1,000 direct and indirect jobs. It also provides a platform for entrepreneurs and local businesses, offering them a modern and well-structured environment to expand their activities.

The mall’s architecture draws inspiration from traditional Saharan souks and caravanserais, incorporating open and airy spaces. Tensioned fabric structures, reminiscent of nomadic tents, provide shade and protection from the wind, ensuring a pleasant atmosphere for visitors. Urban integration has been carefully planned, with pedestrian-friendly access from the Mahaj Mohammed VI promenade, while vehicular entry is designed to maintain smooth traffic flow via a side road.

In line with an eco-conscious approach, the project prioritizes energy efficiency. The building’s orientation and shaded facades help minimize cooling and heating requirements. Additionally, as part of Marjane Group’s broader sustainability strategy, photovoltaic panels supply renewable energy to the mall’s hypermarkets.
