Shopkeepers and other businesses will be able to access money from card payments within 24 hours, including at weekends and on public holidays, under a new service launched by Lana Cash. The payment institution, a subsidiary of CIH Bank, says its “Règlement Express 24H” service will allow merchants to receive funds faster, regardless of which bank they use.
The move is intended to help businesses pay suppliers, restock goods and cover daily expenses without waiting for normal banking operations to resume after weekends or public holidays.
Under traditional settlement systems, merchants can wait between one and three working days to receive card payments.
“Merchants do not think in terms of business days: their business continues on Saturdays and public holidays, and they need their cash flow to keep operations running,” the company said.
“With Règlement Express 24H, we are shortening the delay between collection and fund availability, including on those days. It is an innovation, but above all a stepping stone: it paves the way for instantaneous settlement, the next frontier in merchant payments.”
The service complements Lana Cash’s existing payment terminals and online payment solutions, which serve small shops, retail chains and e-commerce businesses.
Lana Cash is licensed to operate as a payment institution under Morocco’s central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib. It has more than 1,000 points of sale across the country and offers services including money transfers, bill payments, digital wallets and prepaid cards.
The company has also expanded its merchant payment business by taking over part of the payment terminal portfolio previously managed by the Centre Monétique Interbancaire (CMI), as competition increases in the sector.
In 2024, Lana Cash recorded more than 10 million dirhams in revenue and commissions — equivalent to over 27,000 dirhams a day on average. It reported a net loss of 4.7 million dirhams that year, reflecting investment in payment terminals and digital infrastructure.
