BYD has launched its premium brand, DENZA, in Morocco with the new Z9GT grand tourer. The car comes in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions and introduces several new technologies, including the e³ platform, four-wheel steering and Flash Charging.
The launch marks BYD’s move into the premium car market. DENZA was founded in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz. BYD increased its stake to 90% in 2021, making DENZA its luxury brand.
Auto Nejma is the exclusive importer and distributor of DENZA and BYD vehicles in Morocco. The company has opened dedicated DENZA showrooms in Casablanca and Rabat for premium customers. Service and maintenance are also available through its network in Casablanca, Rabat, Fès and Oujda.
The plug-in hybrid Z9GT combines three electric motors with a 2.0-litre petrol engine. It produces 775 hp, or 805 hp in total system output, and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.
It uses a 63.8 kWh second-generation Blade Battery, offering up to 203 km of electric driving range under the WLTP standard and a total driving range of 805 km. The model starts at 1,075,000 dirhams.
The fully electric version has three electric motors producing 1,156 hp (850 kW). It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and uses a 100.1 kWh Blade Battery with a WLTP range of around 600 km. It is priced from 1,119,000 dirhams.
The Z9GT is built on DENZA’s e³ platform. The system includes three independent electric motors and rear-wheel steering that can turn up to 20 degrees. Features include Crab Walk mode and 360-degree Compass Turns to make parking and low-speed manoeuvres easier.
The car also comes with DiSus-A air suspension, which automatically adjusts ride height and damping. The system is designed to help keep the vehicle stable during a tyre blowout at speeds of up to 180 km/h.
Flash Charging is another key feature. BYD says its 1.5 MW charger can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes, or to 97% in nine minutes.
Inside, the Z9GT has a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, two wireless phone chargers, a refrigerator that operates between -6°C and +50°C, and a 20-speaker Devialet sound system.
