Made in Morocco: FIAT’s TRIS EV rolls out for African markets

FIAT has chosen Morocco as the launchpad for its latest electric innovation: TRIS, a three-wheeled vehicle designed to transform professional mobility across Africa and the Middle East. Developed in Turin, engineered in Casablanca, and assembled in Kénitra, TRIS embodies a new chapter in Morocco’s growing role in the global electric mobility ecosystem.

This compact, fully electric vehicle is tailored for artisans, couriers, and small business operators navigating urban and rural areas. It delivers a 90-kilometer range and can be fully recharged in under five hours using a standard household socket. Three versions will be available: a chassis-cab, a flatbed, and a pickup.

With an annual production target of 65,000 units, the TRIS line boosts Kénitra’s total micromobility output to 135,000 vehicles per year. The project draws heavily on local talent, especially the 4,000 engineers and technicians at Stellantis’ technical center in Casablanca.

TRIS will also come with tailored microcredit and bank financing options, aiming to provide affordable, secure work mobility for low-income populations. For both Stellantis and Moroccan authorities, the project aligns economic inclusion with a vision of ecological transition.

Samir Cherfan, Chief Operating Officer for Stellantis Middle East and Africa, sees TRIS as a product grounded in the realities of the continent—offering local value creation and real opportunities for millions of workers.

FIAT CEO Olivier François underlines the vehicle’s global ambition. After its regional debut, TRIS is set to enter the European market by 2026. He describes the project as a continuation of recent successes like the Topolino and part of a broader drive toward sustainable transformation in the sector.

With TRIS, Morocco confirms its standing as a regional industrial hub—agile, forward-looking, and plugged into the future of electric transport.
