Electricity production at the national level increased by 3% by the end of April 2024, following a 1.9% decline in the same period the previous year, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).
This growth is attributed to a robust performance in private production (+4.2%) and a significant surge in renewable energy output under law 13-09 (+38.6%), as detailed in DEPF’s latest economic report. Conversely, production by the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) fell by 9.9%.
Regarding international electricity trade, imported volumes grew by 15.1% in the first four months of 2024, a considerable decrease from the 119.6% increase recorded during the same period last year.
Export volumes also saw an uptick, rising by 17.9%, amid a 3% increase in net called energy volume, following a 3.4% increase the previous year.
Electricity consumption rose modestly by 0.7% by the end of April 2024, after a 6% improvement in the previous year. This included a 10% rise in medium voltage energy sales, a 3% increase in energy sales to distributors, and a 1.9% growth in low voltage energy sales.
