A Moroccan start-up has raised $1.1m to expand its transport app in Morocco and prepare for growth abroad.
Weego, founded by Saad Jitou and Mor Niangui, received funding from Azur Innovation Fund. The money will help the company improve its platform, which brings together public and private transport in one app. It also plans to expand into Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

The app is currently available in five Moroccan cities. It allows users to plan their trips and follow them in real time, instead of switching between different apps and services.
The investment comes as Morocco’s transport sector becomes more digital, especially as the country prepares to host major international events that require better transport planning.
Weego also works with companies, offering tools to manage employee transport. The firm says this can lower transport costs, cut carbon emissions by improving routes, and help staff arrive on time.
Chief executive Saad Jitou said the new funding would help the company hire more tech staff, launch in more Moroccan cities and attract more business clients, while getting ready to expand into other regions.
Adnane Filali, managing partner at Azur Innovation Fund, said the investment shows the need for smarter, joined-up transport systems that can modernise cities across the region.
