The National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) of Morocco and the Spanish National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday in Madrid, aimed at enhancing their collaboration in energy regulation. The agreement, signed by ANRE President Abdellatif Bardach and CNMC President Cani Fernández Vicién, underscores the strong ties between Morocco and Spain under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and paves the way for new opportunities in energy cooperation.
During the signing, Bardach emphasized that this MoU is the result of in-depth discussions and a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation in energy regulation. He highlighted key technical aspects like pricing, and the adoption of transparent and fair practices, which are essential for ensuring an open and equitable energy market.
“Our initiative extends far beyond celebrating our achievements,” Bardach noted. He added that the agreement represents a long-term strategic approach to strengthen and expand existing energy exchanges and interconnections, demonstrating a deep commitment to regional integration and energy security.
Bardach and Fernández also expressed their commitment to close cooperation, making this partnership a model for international collaboration. They emphasized the shared strategic interests of both nations in advancing energy regulation and innovation, benefiting the broader Mediterranean and African regions.
Additionally, both leaders celebrated their joint role as co-chairs of the green hydrogen task force within the Association of Mediterranean Regulators. This highlights their pivotal role in promoting green hydrogen as a key element of the global energy transition.
This partnership underscores the strategic importance of Morocco and Spain as key players in renewable energy technologies and their commitment to fostering a sustainable energy future for the region.
