Morocco has officially begun the holy month of Ramadan, with Thursday 19 February 2026 declared the first day of fasting.

The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs said on Wednesday evening that the crescent moon marking the start of Ramadan 1447 AH had been sighted across the country.

In a statement, the ministry said it monitored the Ramadan moon after sunset on Wednesday, 29 Shaaban 1447 AH, corresponding to 18 February 2026.

It added that it contacted all regional religious officials as well as units of the Royal Armed Forces involved in moon sighting. All confirmed that the crescent had been seen.

As a result, the ministry announced that Thursday 19 February 2026 would be the first day of Ramadan in Morocco.

Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer and reflection observed by Muslims worldwide. From dawn to sunset, those observing the month abstain from food and drink.

7news English extends its wishes for a blessed Ramadan to the Moroccan people at home and abroad.
