Morocco’s Education Ministry has started remote lessons for pupils after severe weather forced several schools to close in parts of the country.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry said the move is meant to keep classes going and protect pupils’ right to education. Heavy weather in some regions led to the temporary closure of schools and disrupted normal lessons.

The plan covers schools in the “pioneer schools” reform programme as well as other public schools affected by the closures.

Online classes will follow a timetable to be announced later. The ministry said this will help pupils continue their studies while in-person lessons are on hold.

Teachers trained in online teaching and virtual classrooms under the e-Qissmi programme will lead the lessons. The daily schedule will be published and updated on the ministry’s website, men.gov.ma, and on taalimtice.ma.
