Authorities in Morocco are on high alert as wildfire risks spike across multiple regions of the country. On Monday, the National Agency for Water and Forests issued an updated fire risk bulletin, based on advanced forecasting models. These predictions take into account forest type, flammability, and local topoclimatic data to assess the threat level with precision.

The most severe warnings are in place for the provinces of Chefchaouen, Taounate, and Taza, where fire danger has been categorized as “extreme” through July 18. Several other areas—including Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Al Hoceima, Béni Mellal, Essaouira, Fahs-Anjra, Khénifra, Larache, M’diq-Fnideq, Ouezzane, Tanger-Assilah, and Tétouan—are also under heightened alert, with officials labeling the risk as “high.”

Meanwhile, a moderate risk level has been flagged in a number of other provinces, such as Berkane, Driouch, Ifrane, Kénitra, Khémisset, Nador, Rabat, Salé, Sidi Slimane, Skhirate-Témara, and Taourirt.

In light of these warnings, the agency is urging everyone—residents, tourists, and forestry workers alike—to exercise maximum caution in and around wooded areas. Officials are calling on the public to follow fire prevention guidelines carefully and to immediately report any signs of smoke or suspicious activity near forested zones. The goal is to prevent any ignition before it spreads, especially as weather conditions become increasingly favorable to wildfires.
