A new factory making fibre optic and network cables has opened in Berrechid to boost Morocco’s digital infrastructure and local industry.
The plant was inaugurated on Monday in the presence of Ryad Mezzour. The project cost 200 million dirhams, about $21.86 million, and will create 165 direct jobs.
The new site, covering 15,000 square metres, brings all operations of FBR Cables into one location. The company says the expansion will increase annual output to 70,000 kilometres of fibre optic cables, covering around 60% of Morocco’s yearly demand.
Officials say the factory will help double national production in this field and support efforts to strengthen local industry. The unit is fully owned by Moroccan investors and uses modern technology.
It will produce fibre optic cables as well as high-performance network cables in categories 6, 7 and 8. The company says this will improve the “Made in Morocco” brand and help it sell more to African markets.
FBR Cables was founded in 1991 in Bouskoura. It supplies major telecom operators, including Orange Maroc, INWI and Maroc Telecom.
The company employs 124 people directly and supports more than 500 indirect jobs through local partners. It also runs training and technology transfer programmes with industry groups.
