Damane Cash has signed an agreement with several pharmacies in Morocco to expand the use of electronic payments in pharmacies.
The deal involves the Conseil Régional des Pharmaciens d’Officine du Sud, the Conseil Régional des Pharmaciens d’Officine du Nord and the Fédération Nationale des Syndicats des Pharmaciens du Maroc.
The partnership aims to introduce payment solutions designed for pharmacies, allowing them to accept electronic transactions more easily while meeting security and industry standards.
The system will include payment tools tailored to daily pharmacy operations. These are expected to simplify transactions and give patients more options to pay when buying medicines or other health products.
The initiative comes as Morocco seeks to accelerate digital payments under the national financial inclusion strategy led by Bank Al‑Maghrib and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Morocco.
Cash still dominates everyday transactions in the country. Pharmacies represent a key target for digital payments, with more than 12,000 outlets operating across Morocco.
Electronic payments could also reduce the need to handle cash in pharmacies, lowering the risk of theft and accounting errors. Digital systems can also help pharmacists track transactions and manage accounts more efficiently.
Customers may also benefit from additional options such as card payments and QR code transactions, which support contactless payments.
Damane Cash, a subsidiary of Bank of Africa, provides money transfer and payment services in Morocco. The company says its low-cost tools can help pharmacies and other small businesses adopt digital payments more easily.
Some of the mobile payments rely on the national Maroc Pay system, which allows payments between different mobile wallets regardless of the user’s bank or telecom provider.
