Morocco sends special flight to bring stranded citizens home from Dubai

Morocco’s national airline Royal Air Maroc has operated a special flight to bring home Moroccan citizens stranded in Dubai

Morocco’s national airline Royal Air Maroc has operated a special flight to bring home Moroccan citizens stranded in Dubai after airspace closures disrupted travel across the Middle East.

Royal Air Maroc said the aircraft left Dubai on Wednesday carrying 270 passengers and was bound for Casablanca.

A company source told SNRTnews that the flight departed at 06:00 Morocco time, equivalent to 10:00 local time in the United Arab Emirates.

The airline said the service was arranged to evacuate Moroccans unable to return home because of the current situation in the region.

Royal Air Maroc had announced a day earlier that some of its flights remained cancelled because several countries in the Middle East had closed their airspace.

In a statement on its official account on X, the airline said it was closely monitoring the situation and would keep passengers informed, while maintaining strict aviation safety standards.

The closures have disrupted international air travel and left thousands of passengers stranded at major hubs, including Dubai’s main airport.

Moroccans in the United Arab Emirates faced difficulties finding alternative routes as several airlines suspended flights or changed their paths to avoid areas affected by tensions.

Royal Air Maroc said it was offering flexible rebooking options for passengers affected by cancellations.

Travellers can contact the airline’s call centre or return to the original point of purchase to arrange new bookings. Passengers were also advised to check their flight status and update contact details through the airline’s online booking management service.

The special flight was organised in coordination with diplomatic and airport authorities in Morocco and the United Arab Emirates to secure a safe air corridor.

The airline said the operation forms part of its emergency response plan, which includes adjusting flight schedules and using larger aircraft to carry more passengers during regional crises while maintaining international safety standards.
