Tourism in Morocco welcomed 4.3 million visitors in the first three months of 2026, a 7% increase compared with the same period last year.
March was especially busy, with almost 1.6 million arrivals, up 18% from March 2025.
Tourism minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor said the numbers show the country is still gaining momentum and that work is continuing to keep the growth going for the rest of the year.
The results follow a major tourism plan launched in March 2023, worth 6.1 billion dirhams. The plan first aimed to attract 17.5 million tourists by 2026 and bring in 120 billion dirhams in foreign currency. Morocco reached 19.8 million visitors in 2025, earlier than expected, so the country has now raised its target to 26 million visitors by 2030.
Part of the strong start to 2026 comes from the impact of the Africa Cup of Nations, which Morocco hosted from December 2025 to 18 January 2026. The event kept hotels busy in several cities. Occupancy rose 42% in Rabat, 36% in Casablanca, and 31% in Tangier. Morocco is also still benefiting from global attention after the 2022 World Cup and its joint bid with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Flights have also increased. Royal Air Maroc added 10 new international routes in early 2026, linking cities such as Tangier, Tetouan and Nador with major European hubs including Barcelona, Madrid and Frankfurt. France remains the biggest source of visitors, but arrivals from newer markets are rising fast. In January, visitors from Poland increased by 40%, from the United States by 15%, and from Canada by 10%.
The country is also trying to move beyond traditional beach holidays. The Moroccan Tourism Engineering Corporation is supporting 1,500 entertainment and leisure projects to encourage tourists to stay longer. Plans include a 200-hectare theme park in the Marrakech-Safi region aimed at families and higher-spending visitors.
Other early 2026 figures show travel income reached 11.7 billion dirhams in January, up 19.3%, while air traffic reached 3.1 million passengers, up 14.7%.
