
Morocco’s women’s football team will face Congo in the second round of African qualifiers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, following the draw held in Cairo on Wednesday.
The two matches will take place between October 5 and October 13. The winner will move on to the next stage of qualification.
Morocco women’s national football team are favourites to progress based on recent results and rankings.
The team’s development has been supported by increased investment in women’s football in Morocco. This includes improved training facilities and a more structured national setup.
Royal Moroccan Football Federation has expanded investment in infrastructure and preparation, including work at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.
Morocco will also host the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations from July 25 to August 16, 2026. The team are in Group A with Algeria, Senegal and Kenya.
This means 2026 will include two major tournaments for the squad, with WAFCON in the summer and Olympic qualifiers in October.
Coach Jorge Vilda has introduced a more possession-based style. Younger players from the youth teams are also being included in the senior squad.
Congo are expected to provide strong physical opposition. Morocco are favourites, but away matches in Central Africa can be difficult.
Only two African teams will qualify for the 2028 Olympics, making the competition tight. Morocco will need to get past Congo before facing tougher opponents in later rounds.
