Exports of phosphates and derivatives have increased by 4.7%, reaching over 25.23 billion dirhams (MMDH) in the first four months of this year, compared to 24.10 MMDH by the end of April 2023, according to the Office des Changes.
This growth, slightly tempered by a decrease in phosphoric acid sales (-435 million dirhams (MDH)), is mainly attributed to higher sales of natural and chemical fertilizers (+1.28 MMDH) and phosphates (+285 MDH), as detailed in the Office des Changes’ April monthly bulletin on external trade indicators.
Additionally, the aeronautics sector saw a 17.3% increase in exports, reaching 8.32 MMDH, driven by a rise in assembly segment sales (+1.16 MMDH) and the EWIS segment (+64 MDH).
The automotive sector also experienced significant growth, rising by 12.8% to 52.71 MMDH, boosted by increases in construction segment sales (+2.79 MMDH), cabling segment (+1.82 MMDH), and vehicle interiors and seats segment (+521 MDH).
In contrast, the electronics and electrical sector declined by 9.7% to 5.29 MMDH, primarily due to a drop in sales of electronic components (-683 MDH). However, this decline was partially offset by an increase in exports of devices for cutting or connecting electrical circuits (+92 MDH).
The agriculture and agri-food sector also saw a slight contraction of 1.9%, amounting to 33.69 MMDH due to a decrease in food industry exports (-784 MDH). Similarly, the textiles and leather sector declined by 6%, settling at 15.21 MMDH, driven by drops in sales of ready-made garments (-599 MDH) and footwear (-171 MDH).
Overall, total exports reached 150.49 MMDH by the end of April 2024, compared to 145.40 MMDH a year earlier, reflecting a 3.5% increase.
