In a significant stride for Morocco’s industrial ambitions, MP Industry Group—a subsidiary of the Romanian MEN Industry Group—has officially inaugurated its first factory on the Tanger Med industrial platform. This milestone marks the group’s entry into the country’s thriving automotive sector, enhancing local production capabilities and fortifying Morocco’s position as a hub for automotive manufacturing.
The inauguration, held at the Tanger Automotive City (TAC) on Friday, saw an impressive lineup of industry leaders and dignitaries. Presiding over the ceremony was Ryad Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, alongside prominent figures such as Ahmed Bennis, General Director of Tanger Med Zones (TMZ); Jean Drugescu, CEO of Metaplast and MP Industry Group; Dan Iacoban, General Director of MP Industry Group Morocco; and Mohamed Bachiri, General Director of Renault Group Morocco.
Spanning 35,000 square meters, the newly established plant specializes in producing automotive plastic components using advanced injection molding techniques. With an investment exceeding 437 million dirhams (approximately $40 million), the facility promises to create 150 direct jobs, boosting employment and skill development in the region.
Minister Mezzour underscored the strategic importance of the project, stating, “This factory, developed within Renault’s ecosystem, highlights the undeniable appeal of Morocco’s industrial platform. Its cutting-edge technology will not only strengthen our competitive edge but also bolster local production capacity in the automotive sector.”
Jean Drugescu, CEO of Metaplast and MP Industry Group, highlighted the factory’s role in unlocking the potential of African markets, emphasizing its alignment with Morocco’s push for greater local integration in automotive production. “This partnership with Moroccan authorities reassures us of a promising future in the region. We proudly adopt the slogan: ‘We are Moroccan.’”
Ahmed Bennis added, “Our goal is to elevate MP Industry Group’s global competitiveness while furthering Morocco’s industrial integration in the automotive sector.”
True to the global shift towards sustainable practices, MP Industry Group has equipped the factory with photovoltaic solar panels and recycling systems for plastic waste. This eco-conscious approach reinforces the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and aligns with Morocco’s broader goals for sustainable industrial development.
Mohamed Bachiri of Renault Group Morocco expressed pride in witnessing this landmark addition to the local automotive ecosystem. He remarked, “Renault has supported MP Industry’s establishment in Morocco, and we will continue to collaborate to meet shared objectives, enhancing our local integration and boosting Morocco’s industrial competitiveness on an international scale.”
As MP Industry Group begins its operations in Tangier, this partnership exemplifies the synergies between international expertise and Morocco’s industrial potential, setting the stage for further growth and innovation in the automotive sector.
