Atacadão has officially opened its first store in Morocco’s southern provinces, launching operations in Laayoune on November 18, a date that holds special significance as it marks both the 50th anniversary of the Green March and the 70th anniversary of Morocco’s independence.
The new retail space spans 30,000 square meters, with over 4,400 square meters dedicated to commercial activity. The site also includes a 311-space parking lot, and the total investment for the project reached 120 million dirhams. In addition to enhancing the region’s retail infrastructure, the project has created 120 direct jobs and around 100 indirect employment opportunities in the local economy.
For Atacadão, this new location represents a strategic milestone in expanding its national footprint, bringing its presence to 21 cities across the country. “We’re proud to support the economic development of Morocco’s southern provinces by offering products that are affordable and accessible to everyone,” said Hicham Yacoubi, Deputy General Manager of Atacadão.
The Laayoune store operates under the brand’s cash-and-carry model—a self-service wholesale concept where both businesses and individuals can buy in bulk or by the unit, with volume-based discounts. The company maintains a consistent pricing policy nationwide, ensuring that customers in remote regions pay the same prices as those in major urban centers.
Offering more than 7,000 product lines, the new store is designed to meet the needs of local businesses, including cafes, restaurants, hotels, as well as everyday families. With this expansion, Atacadão reinforces its commitment to supporting local economic momentum while helping consumers manage their cost of living through competitive pricing and wide product availability.
