New online declaration system for tourist lodging now in effect

The online nightly declaration system for tourist accommodation establishments (EHT) and other lodging forms is now operational.

This new online declaration system, which replaces manual submissions, ensures accurate recording of each night’s stay through a straightforward daily online process on the platform “www.stdn.ma,” the ministry stated in a press release.

This shift to online declarations is mandatory for all establishments hosting national or international tourists (including hotels, guest houses, hotel residences, etc.) in compliance with Law 80-14 related to tourist accommodations and other lodging types. Beyond regulatory compliance, this transition brings significant time and efficiency savings through process automation. The STDN also provides tourist accommodation establishments with privileged access to real-time statistics, enabling them to analyze their performance and quickly adapt to market changes.

From a sectoral perspective, the STDN enhances performance analysis of hotel establishments by facilitating the tracking of tourist nights spent by both Moroccan and foreign tourists. This will enable the tourism lodging ecosystem and relevant authorities to better understand trends, identify strengths, and pinpoint opportunities for improvement to tailor development strategies effectively.

To ensure the successful implementation of this system, which opens new horizons, there was fruitful collaboration between the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, the General Directorate of National Security, and the Royal Gendarmerie.

In February 2024, a joint circular from the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, and the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, was sent to governors, regional and provincial tourism delegates, urging them to monitor registrations and online declarations and to raise awareness among hoteliers about the importance of complying with current regulations to ensure a smooth transition to the online declaration system.

Thanks to this joint effort, there has been a widespread mobilization on the ground, resulting in 3,414 EHTCs being registered with the STDN by the end of May 2024, representing 83% of operational EHTCs, the ministry noted, urging the remaining establishments to quickly comply with this process.
