Morocco’s adoul, or Islamic marriage notaries, say they will go on strike across the country for a week, from 2 March to 10 March, over a new draft law that would change the rules of their profession.
The executive office of the National Authority of Adoul said all their services will stop nationwide during that time.
In a statement issued from Rabat on 23 February 2026, the group said the strike comes after what it called the government’s lack of response to their concerns about Draft Law No. 16.22, which sets out how the job of adoul is organised.
The authority said the strike is to defend what it described as the “fair and legitimate” demands of its members. It said it does not accept the draft law in its current form and does not want it approved without including the main changes it had proposed.
The statement added that the decision reflects what it called strong agreement among adoul across Morocco.
The group also repeated that it rejects any legal changes that, in its view, do not respect the special nature of their work and their role in the justice system. It called on the government to start serious talks to reach a deal that protects the profession and responds to the expectations of adoul.
