The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) and ESSO Exploration International Limited (ESSO) signed two recognition contracts on Tuesday in Rabat. This is part of ONHYM’s strategy to promote the hydrocarbon potential of the national subsoil.
The contracts, signed by Amina Benkhadra, Director General of ONHYM, and Charles David Tautfest, President of ESSO, pertain to the Safi-Essaouira Offshore and Agadir-Ifni Offshore zones, located off the coasts of Safi, Essaouira, Agadir, and Sidi Ifni, as detailed in an ONHYM statement.
This agreement signifies the return of ExxonMobil Corporation, ESSO’s parent company, to Morocco. ExxonMobil is one of the world’s largest publicly traded energy and petrochemical companies, having formed from the merger of Exxon and Mobil in 1999.
ONHYM currently collaborates with 14 companies under 19 petroleum agreements and one recognition contract.
ExxonMobil Corporation has interests in hydrocarbon exploration and production projects in 20 countries, alongside its activities in petrochemicals, refining, and the distribution of petroleum products globally.
