Orange Morocco has opened a new industrial 5G lab in partnership with Ericsson at GITEX Africa, aimed at testing how 5G can improve smart city services, logistics, and energy management.

The lab will allow Orange and its partners to explore real-world applications of 5G, including automated systems for transport and city infrastructure. “This lab is a step forward in showing how 5G can transform industries and everyday life in Morocco,” said an Orange representative.

Orange is also showcasing other digital solutions at GITEX, including AI-powered drones that inspect mobile antennas to reduce maintenance downtime, and a secure platform for businesses to use large AI models while keeping full control of their data.

The company has launched partnerships to strengthen Morocco’s tech ecosystem. With Technopark and AWS, it created the IA Garden Program, a local AI platform for startups and institutions. Orange is also using AI with Jobzyn to streamline recruitment and allow job seekers to explore opportunities at the event.

These initiatives tie into Morocco’s Digital Strategy 2030, which aims to add MAD 100 billion ($10.7 billion) to the economy, create 240,000 digital jobs, and make Morocco a producer of technology rather than just a user.

Keeping data local is also a priority. Orange offers local cloud services and content delivery networks to comply with laws like Law 09-08. The company’s AI-driven cybersecurity tools are designed to protect the many small and medium businesses that make up 95% of Morocco’s economy from costly cyberattacks.

GITEX Africa 2026 brought together more than 1,450 exhibitors and 800 startups from 130 countries, highlighting Africa’s potential to gain $1.2 trillion from AI by 2030, with Morocco positioning itself as a key hub linking Europe and Africa.
