The Oum Azza drinking water treatment plant is being expanded to produce more water as demand continues to rise. The plant in Skhirat-Temara will get an extra 2 cubic metres of treatment capacity per second. Its total capacity will rise from 5 to 7 cubic metres per second, according to the Al Ma Dialna platform, which is linked to the Ministry of Equipment and Water. The increase will raise the plant’s treatment capacity by 40%.
The project aims to help maintain drinking water supplies in the areas served by the plant and provide more capacity during periods of water stress.
Oum Azza is an important part of the drinking water network serving the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Casablanca areas. The expansion will allow the facility to treat more water as demand grows.
The project comes as the country continues to deal with years of drought and pressure on water resources. Several major projects are under way to improve water supplies and move water between regions.
The Oum Azza expansion is part of wider efforts to increase drinking water production capacity and make supplies more reliable.
The plant will have a total treatment capacity of 7 cubic metres per second once the expansion is completed.
