The number of newly registered businesses in Morocco reached 54,643 in the first seven months of 2024, according to data from the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).
These businesses are divided between corporate entities (39,434) and individual enterprises (15,209), as outlined in OMPIC’s general dashboard on business creation statistics.
Commerce sector leads business creation
In terms of industry distribution, the commerce sector dominates with 34.72% of newly created businesses. It is followed by construction and real estate (19.10%), various services (18.87%), transport (7.94%), industry (7.28%), hotels and restaurants (5.60%), information and communication technologies (2.77%), financial activities (2.11%), and agriculture and fishing (1.61%).
Regional breakdown: Casablanca-Settat tops the list
By region, Casablanca-Settat leads with 17,234 businesses created as of the end of July. Other regions with high levels of new business registrations include Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (7,822), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (6,399), Marrakech-Safi (6,214), and Fès-Meknès (3,842). These are followed by Souss-Massa (3,610), Oriental (3,246), Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (2,121), Béni Mellal-Khénifra (1,613), Drâa-Tafilalet (1,262), Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab (837), and Guelmim-Oued Noun (443).
SARL AU remains the most popular business structure
Regarding business structure, the single-member limited liability company (SARL AU) remains the most popular, representing 64.9% of new registrations, followed by multi-member limited liability companies (SARL) at 34.5%.
