Patent filings in Morocco saw a significant upswing in 2025, according to data from the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property, with figures tallied through the end of October. During the first ten months of the year, a total of 2,414 patent applications were submitted—338 of them by Moroccan applicants.
This national contribution marks a strong 39% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Universities played a leading role, accounting for 64% of all Moroccan filings. They were followed by individual inventors at 20%, and businesses at 13%, highlighting the academic sector’s key position as a driving force behind innovation in the country.
In terms of industry focus, pharmaceutical products topped the list, making up 27% of all filings. Biotechnology followed with 14%, while fine organic chemistry came in third with 11%, reflecting the scientific orientation of many recent innovations.
Since the start of the year, 516 patents have been granted, further confirming the gradual rise of Morocco’s applied research ecosystem. This growth is fueled by an expanding contribution from local institutions and a broader range of targeted technological fields, signaling a deepening of the country’s innovation landscape.
