Morocco will host two major golf tournaments in Rabat in May 2026, bringing together top men’s and women’s players for a week of competition.
The Royal Moroccan Golf Federation has confirmed that the 50th edition of the Hassan II Trophy and the 29th Lalla Meryem Cup will run from 18 to 24 May at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat. The events will be held under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI and the presidency of Moulay Rachid.
The 2026 edition marks 50 years since the Hassan II Trophy was first created in 1971 by King Hassan II.
The men’s event will feature 66 players from the PGA TOUR Champions, the only stop on that tour in Africa. The women’s event will include 132 players from the Ladies European Tour, with both tournaments played at the same venue during the same week.
Past participants include Billy Casper, Gary Player and Severiano Ballesteros.
The federation said: “This edition celebrates the continuity of a competition that has preserved its singularity while attracting the biggest names in world golf to Rabat.”
Organisers said the event will highlight water management and environmental work at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, including systems to reduce water use.
A junior programme, the “Hassan II Kids Cup by First Tee”, will run alongside the main events to introduce young Moroccan players to the sport.
The tournament is also linked to Morocco’s wider sports plans ahead of co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Officials see it as a test of the country’s ability to run major international events.
Morocco has more than 40 high-end golf courses, and officials say golf tourism brings higher spending than average leisure travel.
The event also highlights Morocco’s approach to water use in golf, including desalination and wastewater treatment at the venue.
Attention will also be on Moroccan players, including Inès Laklalech, the first Moroccan and Arab woman to win on the Ladies European Tour.
A development programme called First Tee is aimed at producing more local players capable of competing at top level in future editions.
