A Moroccan payment services provider and a healthcare technology company have announced a partnership aimed at accelerating the digitalisation of pharmacies and increasing the use of electronic payments across the country.
Attijari Payment, a licensed payment institution and a subsidiary of Attijariwafa Bank, has signed a strategic agreement with Sobrus, a Moroccan technology firm specialising in digital management platforms for pharmacies.
The partnership comes as Moroccan authorities continue to promote cashless transactions as part of efforts to modernise the economy and improve financial inclusion, particularly in essential sectors such as healthcare.
Under the agreement, Attijari Payment’s electronic solutions will be integrated into Sobrus’s cloud-based pharmacy management software. This will allow payment transactions to be automatically recorded within pharmacy systems, reducing reliance on cash and manual reconciliation.
Fahd Bettache, Chief Executive of Attijari Payment, said the initiative aimed to support the pharmaceutical sector, which plays a central role in the country’s healthcare system.
He said the digitalisation of pharmacies was a key driver of operational efficiency and service quality.
Sobrus Chief Executive Omar Sefiani said integrating connected payments into the company’s platform would simplify daily operations for pharmacists and improve the patient experience.
Sobrus’s pharmacy management software is used by thousands of pharmacies across Morocco. Industry analysts say embedding payment functions into such platforms can reduce errors, speed up checkout times and improve transparency for businesses and regulators.
The move reflects a broader shift within Morocco’s pharmaceutical sector, which has historically relied on cash transactions and manual processes. Pharmacies are increasingly adopting digital tools to manage inventory, prescriptions and insurance claims.
Attijari Payment focuses on developing payment solutions tailored to specific industries, while Sobrus provides digital platforms designed for healthcare professionals.
Both companies said the partnership aimed to contribute to a more efficient and digitally enabled pharmaceutical ecosystem in Morocco.
