Porsche Morocco celebrates Taycan update and 50 years of turbo legacy

The Porsche centers in Casablanca, Tangier, and Marrakech recently hosted a dual celebration, marking the launch of the updated Taycan range and commemorating the 50th anniversary of the iconic Turbo designation.

In an event attended by distinguished guests, notable personalities, and media representatives, Porsche Morocco unveiled the refreshed Taycan lineup. “With the launch of the Taycan in 2021, Porsche Morocco pioneered the introduction of a fully electric luxury vehicle in the country. The Taycan garnered significant interest from the Moroccan public. Building on this success, we are proud to be among the first markets to offer the newly updated Taycan models in 2024,” stated Sébastien Poncet, Director of Porsche Morocco.

Enhanced performance and range

The updated Taycan offers four powertrain options for each body style, including rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive versions. The base sport sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, a 0.6-second improvement over the previous model. The flagship Taycan Turbo S reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in a remarkable 2.4 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than its predecessor. Depending on the body style and powertrain, the maximum range in the WLTP cycle extends to 678 km, a 35% increase.

“Since the Taycan’s debut in 2021, we have focused on providing optimal charging solutions through the Porsche Destination Charging network. Charging stations are now available in 13 cities across 21 sites. Additionally, Porsche is expanding its footprint in Morocco with new distribution and service centers in Tangier and Marrakech, with plans to open two more locations soon,” said Meriem Elrhazi, Marketing Communication, Product, and Business Development Manager at Porsche Morocco.

Celebrating 50 years of turbo innovation

The launch coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Turbo nameplate. Various Turbo models, including the Cayenne, Panamera, and the legendary 911, were showcased. In 1974, Porsche revolutionized motorsport by entering the 911 Carrera RSR 2.1 Turbo in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and unveiling the first production 911 Turbo at the Paris Motor Show.

In 2024, all Porsche models with internal combustion engines feature turbocharging technology. The Turbo designation now signifies the most powerful models in each range, including the electric Taycan Turbo.

The Turbo technology has powered some of the most iconic 911 models: the 911 3.0 of 1975, the 930 Flachbau of 1982, the 959 of 1986, the 911 GT2 of 1993, and the 911 GT1 of 1996. It has also been used in the Porsche 924 and 944 from 1978 and 1986, the first SUV Cayenne in 2003, and the luxury four-door Panamera in 2009.

“Some of the most emblematic Turbo models, like the various 911 editions, have been sold in Morocco. Many Moroccan customers have experienced Turbo technology in other models like the Cayenne. Morocco boasts a large community of rare model enthusiasts and Porsche aficionados. We are proud of our Turbo collection spread across the country,” concluded Sébastien Poncet.
