Rabat Hosts Exhibition “Delacroix, Memories of Trip To Morocco”, a First in Africa and Arab World

The Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art will house, from July 7 to October 9, 2021, the exhibition “Delacroix, memories of a trip to Morocco”, a first on the African continent and the Arab world.

“Almost two centuries after his trip to Morocco, the painter Eugène Delacroix returns to Rabat, to the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, from July 7 to October 9, 2021. The exhibition +Delacroix, memories of a trip to Morocco+, organized with the Eugène-Delacroix National Museum – Public Establishment of the Louvre Museum, is a first on the African continent and in the Arab world,” said the National Museum Foundation on Monday.

“Delacroix, memories of a trip to Morocco” relates the painter’s journey through paintings, drawings, watercolors but also via almost all of the objects, clothes, weapons and musical instruments that he brought back from his journey and which accompanied him throughout his artistic career.

He is thus the first ambassador of Moroccan colors that captivate him, and of the costumes and traditions that he draws and paints wonderfully,” underlined the Foundation in a press release, noting that upon his return to France, and until his death, the artist continued to reproduce in his works the many influences brought back from his trip.

This exhibition-event will allow Moroccans to discover the history of the painter and of this trip which also provides a key to reading and understanding this era in Morocco, historically, diplomatically and above all artistically, according to the same source. Pursuant to the will of King Mohammed VI of always maintaining a strong link between Moroccans Residing Abroad and their country of origin, the National Museum Foundation said that it is granting a reduction of 50% for the exhibition upon presentation of the passport.
