The Université Internationale de Rabat (UIR) has won major prizes at the International Fair in the Middle East. The event was held with support from the World Intellectual Property Organization and the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations.
Two health projects from the university were honoured. UIR also received a gold medal as an institution for its work in research and innovation.
Gold for new dental tool
A gold medal was given to Ghoul Sonia and Berkaoui Abdelwahed from the CRESS and LERMA labs.
They created a new dental tool used in root canal treatment. Sometimes, these small tools can snap inside a tooth. When that happens, it can be hard to remove the broken piece and may require more complex treatment.
The new tool is designed so it can help remove itself if it breaks. This makes the problem easier to manage. It lowers risk for patients, reduces stress for dentists and helps avoid more serious procedures.
Bronze for asthma monitoring system
A bronze medal was awarded to Fraihi Nouhaila and Karrakchou Ouassim from the TIC Lab for a project called iRespire.
It is a smart system that helps people with asthma. It includes a smart inhaler, an electronic stethoscope, sensors that check the air, and a smartwatch.
The system studies health and air data in real time. It can warn patients of a possible asthma attack before it happens. Because the data is processed directly on the device, alerts are faster and personal information is better protected.
UIR also received a gold medal as an institution for its strong academic record and support for new ideas.
The university said the awards show that its research can compete at an international level and help turn ideas into real health solutions.
